Music through the Ages- 1-22-12- Photo by Kris J. Murante
My assignment today was a Music through the Ages fundraiser where local musicians played to music lovers to raise funds for School 19. Whenever I, and I assume we (photographers) get an assignment, I begin to visualize what the ideal picture might be, if available. Today I was thinking, any kids from School 19 - maybe dancing- at the event. Well, the thing you visualize almost never happens. However, when I saw a wide-eyed 1-year old watching a musician play a harmonica, flanked by two older generations, grandfather and dad, that to me screamed “Music through the Ages.”

Munye Mohamed, 48, is a Somali immigrant that has been calling Rochester his home for 11 years. Mohamed was resting against the wall after a meal with friends in the Somali Community Center in Rochester, when I saw the opportunity to photograph him. The light was spectacular and I quickly reached for the camera and made the photo. The place was packed, so I think it was a miracle no one walked in front of my lens in that second, as in previous attempts.

Mendon Ponds Park was stunning today, all covered in white and lit by a beautiful afternoon light. From an opposite hill, Bill Bayer of Brighton, caught my eye with his yellow sledding tube surrounded by a blue cast getting ready to slide down the hill. This photo is a study about shape, color and composition.

What can I say? You can’t make this up, a guy using a riding law mower to get through the snow. This is a photo that makes a photog’s day. Here’s the caption - Francis Garcia used his tractor to drive and pick up a wheel assembly for his van that broke down. “It’s a lot easier than riding my bike,” he said during the snow that fell Friday morning in Rochester.

Fire in the Snow - 01/13/12 - Photo by Tina Yee I went to a fire in Penfield, because of the snow and travel conditions it took me an hour to get there so the fire was out by the time I got there. Such a stark contrast the black from the smoke and fire damage and the white wind whipped snow.
Planet Cactus - 01/10/11 - Photo by Tina Yee
I was taking photos inside the Garden Factory for Gates LIfe and I saw this cactus that looked like it was something cool and alien. I thought a close-up would really accentuate that look.

I was trying to make a panorama at the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden but soon realized that getting a butterfly in the actual panorama is a lot harder. It was making me laugh that every time I was putting together the photos the butterflies would fly around me but when the iphone was up for the panorama they could not be seen. This one I captured with my Canon while the iphone was stitching a panorama I had just made.
