Creative Destruction - 12/23/12 - Photo by Carlos Ortiz
This was a photo-illustration with the headline title “Creative Destruction, how Kodak is blowing itself up in hopes of surviving”. I had to come up with an image that symbolized the end of photography within the company as it tries to stay afloat in the commercial packaging and printing industry. After many ideas, keeping in mind I would include a point and shoot camera that my photo editor provided, I came to the conclusion that using an implosion image as the base and the camera (which I shot in the studio) as a falling building would work best. This suggested the falling, destruction, shattering, etc, of the image giant. I distorted the camera, created the cracks and added some of the smoke / dust in Photoshop. This changes Kodak is going through are difficult to digest considering I worked in the company’s photo studio for five years. Not to mention all the Kodak film I shot from my beginnings as a photographer throughout my career. I thought the headline, which was created after I put together the image, matched the image perfectly.
